In the Age of the Imbecile, we’ve grown accustomed to the exposure of various kinds of bullshit; which makes perfect sense, given the fact that Bullshit is Imbecile’s father [see, “What Is the Age of the Imbecile?”]. One of the most exhaustively propagated BS is the maxim: ‘youth empowerment’. Everyone seeks youth empowerment; but no one wants to see the youth calling world-changing [in truth, the point here is to refer to anything that extends beyond personal and domestic levels] decisions—in a word, empowered.
Credit must be given where it’s due, nonetheless. Seminars, webinars, conferences, and other forms of glorious and prestigious human convention are constantly held to advocate this magnanimous quest. If we just observe all the effort put into those events, perhaps we would quit being such an ungrateful generation. All the schedules-coordination; itineraries; and, hotel reservations {rooms and halls}; press coverage; ah! And the group photo—that takes forever to get everyone in their right position—; not to mention catering (just as in weddings, the organizers are well aware that most attendees are there for the food); in addition to the grand recommendations, declarations, and resolutions—results of unwavering assiduousness; every single one of these most arduous tasks is undertaken for the sake of the youths.
Meanwhile, the precipitous youths are either queuing up at banks to nefariously apply for, and present the economic feasibility plans of, their future projects, or vying for a job vacancy whilst making the most illogical argument of all: that the number of years of experience is irrelevant as long as the candidate demonstrates the requisite competencies to perform the prescribed tasks par excellence. Such a waste of time, resources, and human energy, don’t you think? Why can’t they simply embrace the ‘youth empowerment’ campaign for Imbecile’s sake?!
A modest application of our deductive faculties would suggest that this campaign is entirely futile, as its apex manifests at the point of one making a decent living without ever acquiring the ability to influence—one dares not say, mold—the variables dictating one’s reality—much less destiny.
With respect to the peculiar grandiose success, experienced by the 1%, well, it’s not a matter of stubbornness, neither unwillingness, nor pride—rest assured. It’s merely the lack of access to this godlike power sensation one finds on tv and other media outlets (social media, in particular): the deification by fame. Nevertheless, we ought to entertain the curiosity as to: what is the nature of such empowerment? And, what kind of influence does that endowment have on the life of the youthful recipient?
Sarcasm aside, that endowment is a form of empowerment that, in most cases, develops externally via consuming every shred of internal peace, self-confidence, and purposiveness; which is strikingly apparent to the naked eye. We see all those overachievers in their twenties ending up depressed, victims to drugs abuse, and sometimes paranoid due to the very same fame they so desperately sought out. The only benefit received from this honeycombed access to ‘power’ is wholly monetary, all the while losing control over every aspect of one’s life as a consequence thereof. Their lives are no longer theirs.
In a nutshell, ‘youth empowerment’ remains an overrated bullshit so long other generations (i.e. senior ones) are defining, orchestrating, and reaping the benefits of its application. The youths must reclaim their voice; speak for themselves; and, regain control over their future.
NO ONE CAN OR ‘WILL’ EMPOWER YOU!
Empower thyself!
