Normalcy and genius are not mutually exclusive. Nevertheless, normalcy cannot comprehend genius in full; nor can the latter clothe itself with the former without considerable regressive difficulty. For a genius, being normal is possibly the most arduous endeavor of all. The yoke of normalcy is simply too heavy for a genius. Most of normal qualities stand irreconcilably contrary to the nature of genius. Furthermore, a great number of those qualities pertain to finitude whilst dismissing infinitude entirely. And therein lies the wearisome dichotomy.
Genius is the great vehiculum of transcendence: that by the virtue of which the res extensa fully synthesizes with the res cogitan, paving the path for the manifestation of one’s self-actualization. It cements the natural, and true, file and order of the human dual state of being; wherein the body is precisely this: an extension (res extensa) of the mind (res cogitan), and eo ipso a subordinate—rather than independent or predominant—state to the latter; that the fullness of one’s existence may be realized i.e. physically, mentally, and, foremost, spiritually. In fine, the genius faculty is the apparatus responsible for bridging the spirit with one’s mundane being. And, alas, very few do cultivate that faculty!
Having that said, the truth of the matter is thus as follows:
The dilemma that a genius encounters with respect to normalcy evolves mostly around intellectual scope. Normalcy is to a genius what a living room aquarium is to a fully-grown blue whale. The whale takes no issue with the water within, but with the spatial dimensions imposed by the glass walls of the aquarium. Similarly, the strife of a genius is not with normal notions and precepts at par; but with their lack of depth, inquisitiveness, want of intellectual stimulus, and, at some instances, triviality.
By want of intellectual stimulus I mean this: most of what is normal does not even tangentially touch on the threshold of any level of consciousness of a genius [emphasis added]. To put it in another way, by the time the genius faculty is active and have acquired reasonable momentum, almost all things pertaining to normalcy would have been processed (screened), fully digested, and for the sake of optimal functional efficiency, registered into the passive faculties—what passed the screening process of which, that is. Furthermore, it is well-known to us that effort is proportional and relative.
To put it in perspective, consider physical exertion with respect to exercising at the gymnasium. The fitter one’s body is, the less effort it exerts in performing the same exercise under the same intensity level in comparison to an inferior physique. The same principle applies to conscious effort. For that divine masterwork that we call the human state of being has been featured with self-preservation mechanism, at all levels; which, technically speaking, so long it functions properly, that mechanism ensures optimal utilization and sustainable conservation of tangible and intangible resources [emphasis added].
Thereon, for a genius to consciously engage in normalcy—given that the intellectual strain of the stimuli pertaining thereto is immutable, i.e. fixed—it must needs regress, more so diminish, its conscious capacity in order to compensate for the insufficiency and, eo ipso, amplify the impact of the stimulant on it. What! Would anyone amputate their limbs and other body parts to fit themself into a container? It is incontestably better to do away with the container altogether than lose oneself in chunks. That is literally what it takes a genius to be clothed with the cloak of normalcy on intellectual and conscious levels.
